My Elves Are Different

Thursday, 14 June 2007

Morning.
Sunrise on the 14th of June, 2007 shows a devastated Townsville. A pall of smoke hangs over this tropical Australian city - many suburbs burned during the night.
The zombie invasion is ending.
My thoughts are with those people still fighting in the United States.
Doubtless there will be many theories about the cause of zombilepsy - as many theories as there are survivors. Maybe not that many theories.
My own theory, unprovable, is that something in space caused the dead to rise. This explains the way the dead rose with the rotation of the Earth.
Is it a natural or artificial cause? Some experimental satellite, or an uncanny asteroid?

Who knows, perhaps it was a combination of many causes.
Is it a coincidence that this comet appeared in the sky on midnight the morning of the 13th?
Should we be worried that its orbit will bring it back to Earth in a year's time - on June 13, 2008? Should we, in the line from the old movie "keep watching the skies?".
I'll be posting a roundup of the best coverage from around the world in a few days. Thanks to everyone who's contributed. I hope you'll all consider doing this again next year!

It may well become an annual thing...

Our midsummer Zedmas. We will gather with friends and family hunkered down behind our Zedmas Barricade, festivally festooned with Zedmas decorations and sing our Zedmas Caroles...

Maybe Zombie Claws will bring me that Baretta Jack Hammer Auto-Shotgun if I am good next year?

Oh, it was a blast! Thanks for doing this.

Hang on... Since I got zombified this year does this mean I can't participate next year?!!?

Richard, you've obviously gone into remission!

Thanks, sir, for organising this. Was fun to take part and read all the posts.

Good luck with next year's end-of-the-world :)

It's still the 13th in Hawaii! Wait until it's the next day there before you declare the event over!

I posted the warnings at Metafilter, and was met with scoffing. The joke will be on them as the worm-food brain-eaters batter their doors. But we have struck back, and will be victorious!

It's good to live in Montana!

We're counting our dead and mourning our losses over at http://bettybaker.livejournal.com/. The next time the zombies come, we'll be ready.

I'm making a break for the state forests here in Pennsylvania. Wish me luck. I'll be ready for these chowder heads next year.

This was wonderful, and despite the fact several people decided to make a wank and drama fest out of some it, I will do this again next year if possible and looking forward to it!

This was excellent - of course it wasn't a very productive day at the office.

Thanks Steve

Check out my finale, it involves the local nuclear power plant...

If we do this again next year, we should consider coming up with a different theme for the end of the world.

Ha! I even managed to mis-appropriate gov't resources to make sure my zombigeddon experience was chronicled! Excellent idea! Can't wait for next year! Until then, I'll be hiding out in the mountains of Colorado!

Dammit, no sooner do I joke about a "government funded warlock summoning a rock from the outer drkness to get the military cheap plutonium" as the cause of this mess...... It's a small comfort being right when your job still makes you show up during the zombiegeddon.

That was incredible, the event that ate livejournal. XD I wish I'd found out about it earlier, but the photo shoot in manhattan of my "rush home" was lots of fun to do. Watching my friends list explode with entries was amazing - and it boggles the mind to think of continuity when hundreds of people are writing simultaneously.. XD

Thank you for coming up with it - and definitely look to do a small collectors book. I was joking with my friends about that.

"They're coming from the sewers folks! Run!" I posted photos at http://pics.livejournal.com/docthestampede/gallery/0003s0r5

Humm.. Got carried away.. Started blathering. Sorry. I'd delete my previous comment but I can't, so just to say it again - GREAT JOB. :)

Something from space, you say? Have you ever seen Day of the Comet? One of the worst most awesome movies ever. Two valley girls and Commander Chakotay from Voyager team up to fight zombies.

Totally awesome.

Wow. I found out about this over a week later, but it stuck in my head! I couldn't get it out! I was reading various people's posts, and idly thinking about what I'd've written, and it took on a life of its own in my mind. Seriously -- I coudln't stop running scenarios through my head. And they weren't the over-the-top flamethrowers-and-shotguns scripts that I thought I'd've written, they turned into things that probably would have happened IRL if zombies took over the world. So I had to write my posts, just to exorcize them from my mental movie theater. They were way too depressing to allow them to keep kicking about in there. (A meme indeed -- a thought form that takes on a life of its own. Can memes be zombified?) Ah well, at least I backdated my posts to the 13th.

If you are still keeping track of such things, here's what I wrote.
