- I was woken up during the night by a lot of sirens going past. Towards the city I think. Must have been a big fire or something. Also, there were a couple of helicopters flying around for a long time. Must be something to do with the military exercises they're doing (a US warship has been in town for a week).

- Update: what on Earth is happening in New Zealand? The news just reported violence across the country, and said that they've declared a state of emergency ...
- Update 2: did anyone see Sunrise just now? Mel and Kochie were in Martin Place talking to some wheelchair basketball players and it looked like there was some kind of brawl in the background! They just cut to a commercial before we could see anything. When I get to work I'll give my brother a call - he's in Sydney.

What's all this about zombies in New Zealand? There's been some weird news out of the US & UK, but not a peep here. Were perfectly safe. Nothing to worry about.
It's another flashmob thing.... Just unemployed hippies causing trouble. I thought they only happened in California, though. :)

Things have been odd in the US. When I left the base (Kennedy Space Center) they actually stopped my car and told me to be careful. And the gates were being shut down with what looked like the bomb squad out in force.
